Notes

Having missed the slenderest crescent the previous day when only 17 hours after New Moon, I’d given up on seeing it but the day one Moon became unexpectedly visible in the cloud and atmospheric murk this evening. As the setting Sun dropped, the illuminated crescent appeared like a smile at around 10° above the horizon. In the Muslim calendar this represents a significant sighting as Eid and Navroz fall side by side. It was a beautiful and moving sight, indeed.
